Welcome to Camp Discovery!
What is it?
Camp Discovery is our summer program for kids from Kindergarten up to 5th grade, generally taking place between early June to late August.
At Camp Discovery, we spend a lot of time outside every day, as well as going on field trips that relate to weekly themes, or visiting local hot spots. These trips allow children to learn through play in a very engaging and hands-on manner.
Outside of field trips, we also spend time at the center with free-play time, outside time as weather permits, and inside time (reading time, quiet time, and tech time).
With sprinklers, super-soakers, and kiddy pools, splash day is a great way to cool off in the summer heat! We often have Splash Days on a weekly basis. To participate in Splash Days, your child must arrive with:
- A swim suit
- A towel
- Proper water shoes (no flip flops or crocs - old sneakers are ideal)
- A bag for all of their things (no plastic or grocery bags)
- Non-spray sunscreen, which must be brought every day
Bike day is our other weekly Camp Discovery Event that we will keep you posted on. For Bike Day, your child may bring anything child-powered with wheels, but they are required to wear a helmet and sneakers.
Outside of the above weekly events, each year we plan for and attend a number of different events. Here are some of the places we went in 2019:
- Lake Tobias
- Indian Echo Caverns
- Cedar Crest Planetarium
- The Lazer Factory
- Palmyra Bowling
Over the summer, we will be utilizing Class Dojo to communicate with you. Class Dojo is great for sharing classroom activities, field trip pictures, and information about various events.
Dojo is utilized as a classroom management tool just as it is in select classrooms during the school year, and students can earn Dojo points for things like exceptional behavior, helping around the classroom, and being a great student. Conversely, students can also lose points for bad behavior or breaking classroom rules.
We high recommend you take part in this opportunity to follow along with you child's experiences during Camp Discovery by downloading Camp Dojo on iPhone or Android devices!
How to get involved?
Reach out to your child's teacher for more information on how to get signed up for Camp Discovery.
Please note that for Tech Times, all devices brought in must be labeled with the child's name. Gaming devices are for Gamer Day only, and all gaming devices and games must be pre-approved by teachers and may not have higher than an E rating. Both Tech Time and Gamer Day will be moderated, and misuse may result in confiscation of the device.
Gamer Day is considered a reward for eligible students who meet a designated reading goal, the number of books read is dependent on their reading level. Books read for each student will be tracked on the Dojo app, and books read at home will count with parent confirmation.
