    • Singing along to simple songs and fingerplays

    • Practicing self help skills such as Velcro, snaps, and buttons
    • Practicing putting on jacket, shoes, and making naptime cot

    • Handling writing and drawing tools with more refined control

Preschool 2 Program (4-5 years)

We as educators know that a child’s education starts well before Kindergarten. In our Preschool 2 program, our goal is to work with all the students on different levels so they feel confident entering Kindergarten and have the education and life skills to be successful in Kindergarten and the years after.

  • Language and Literacy:
    • Recognizing all upper and lower case letters
    • Identifying all letter sounds
    • Identifying rhyming words and opposites
    • Identifying Kindergarten word wall words and using them in simple sentences
    • Retelling simple stories
    • Identifying days of the week, and months of the year
    • Identifying vowels and their sounds
    • Sequencing
    • Kid writing: allowing students to learn to read and write through gradual approximation to adult conventions
  • Mathematical Thinking:
    • Practicing touch counting skills
    • Comparing numbers of objects with more than, less than, and equal to
    • Counting from 1-50 and beyond
    • Identifying and writing numbers 1-20
    • Understand simple addition and subtraction problems using visual objects
    • Using different measuring tools

    • Counting in Spanish 1-31 (For calendar use)
  • Fine Motor:
    • Using proper pencil grip while writing
    • Ability to write all upper and lower case letters, first and last name, word wall words, and simple sentences using the    Letter Formation technique
    • Able to hold scissors correctly while cutting out more difficult shapes

    • Name basic parts of living things

During warmer weather, both Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten programs participate in Bike and Splash days!

Kindergarten Enrichment Program (5-6 years)

Most children only have half-day Kindergarten. The other half of the day, the students focus in the curriculum that is being taught during school hours. The children in this program will engage in more in-depth Language and Literacy activities, math skills, and many hands-on science experiments. The student will also be able to engage in free play centers, where they will be able to socialize with other students in a positive manner. In this program, your child will refine skills such as:

  • Emergent reading
  • Emergent writing
  • Emergent addition and subtraction
  • Basic phonics knowledge
  • Problem solving
  • Various creative outlets
  • Imaginative play
  • Fine motor skills
  • Basic scientific inquiry
School Age Before & After School Program (6-12 years)

Discovery Junction’s before and after school program gives growing children a fun and safe place to engage in. During these hours, your child will be able to:

  • Complete homework
  • Play games
  • Socialize with peers
  • Engage in ongoing activities
  • Practice leadership sills
  • Learn about being responsible
  • Engage in large group discussions and activities

We offer care for school students from 1st grade through 5th grade. Our before and after school program is open for care during Holiday Breaks, teacher in-service days, snow days, or cancellations. Our center also provides bus transportation to all Palmyra Elementary School.
